The announcement everyone has been waiting for! Following discussion of this topic: http://www.korfball.com/forums/topic.asp?topic_id=5593&pollresults=1 In association with Bearsted KC an Experimental "Korfsketball" Tournament will be held on 21st July at Mote Park in Maidstone. (Follow link below for directions) http://www.kent.gov.uk/leisure_and_culture/countryside_and_coast/parks_and_open_spaces/country_parks/mote_park.aspx The rules of the tournament will be as follows: •There will be no halfway line. Players are therefore free to move within any area of the Korfsketball pitch. •Teams will consist of 5 players. •Matches will begin with the home team choosing to field either 3 men and 2 women OR 3 women and 2 men. The away team must then field a team with an equal number of men and women as their opponent. •After two goals are scored, the composition of both teams switches to the opposite of what was decided at the start of the game e.g. 3m2f teams become 3f2m and vice versa. •There must be at least two players of each gender on the pitch at all times (i.e. no imbalanced teams of 4 men and 1 woman and no single gender teams) •Substitutions are unlimited, but still require a stoppage in play (as opposed to the rolling subs of beach korfball). Substitutions may not alter the gender composition of the team i.e. swapping male for female or vice versa is not permitted. •Matches will be 15 minutes long. •The winning team receives 3 points for the win. •Draws result in teams being awarded 2 point each. •If the losing team scores half the goals of the winning team, they receive 1 point. •All other rules of Korfball remain the same. It is recommended that teams enter the tournament with a full compliment of players (8) as the removal of the halfway line means there will be no rest periods while the ball is up the other end! However for those of you feeling super fit and athletic, the minimum for entry is 6 players (3 men, 3 women) so you can always match the gender composition of your opponents squad. Places are limited to 14 teams so get your entries in quickly to avoid disappointment! Apparently not the announcement everyone has been waiting for! I've only had two entries for this so far (one of them being my own team!). Unless I get a flood of interest by Wednesday I'm afraid this will have to be cancelled.Karl (Round dad's house and didn't notice it'd auto signed in under his name rather than mine!) I suspect karl that the lack of entries is because there is nothing really new here like you was talking about in another topic. All you have done is make it a bigger court with less players! Things like a 2 point line or a power play might have seen more interest

I don't know what other's think but I feel there are less tournaments around this summer and I've been really struggling to get teams together from our club. We normally have a team go to a tournament at least once a month. We've even had to cancel a few summer trainings because of low numbers. Are any other clubs having similar issues? My ass maybe dumb, But I ain't no dumbass. norwichice.co.uk |

The poll suggested a higher level of interest than I got. Guess its easier to click "yes" than get a team sorted out. In my opinion there's a bit more to it than just making the court bigger in terms of the tactics and stuff, but I suppose people aren't too fussed about that in a summer tournament. The successful tournaments seem to be the ones that are adding optional extras like big social, particular themes, other forms of entertainment etc. And yes there does seem to be a bit of a downturn in interest in the summer tournament scene in general. Effect of the Olympics and Euro football maybe?

We had 4 people really excited about this, it's a shame it co-incided with my holidays. Our training numbers over the summer have been steady, attracting around 40% of the club, but around of third of our members tend to dodge outdoor training completely aside from the couple of weeks around the tournament when we had some great sessions of over 20 people a week. We have also been very lucky to find 3 new members who after playing the first couple have been trying to convince everyone else to do more. Euros definetly had an impact and now I just don't think people are back into the routine of coming again yet. It's just going to be super squeaky bum time hoping that third of the club come back again in August. Leicester Tornadoes - Founders of sexy korf. Est 2007 www.leicesterkorfball.org.uk |

Tournament officially cancelled due to limited entries. Apologies to the four teams who did enter.
