Speak to Gary Brooks, Trojans, he marked out the pitches last year.

Hi

I can't tell you but my opion is they were far too small. I think U16s should be 40x20 and U14s could also be the same. U11s I think should be 32x16s (regular sports hall size). And mono maybe 20x10m.

There were many comments last year the pitches were too small.

If you need tapes we have 6 sets and can lend.

Thanks
Darren

Hi Liv

I agree with Darren the pitches were too small for some age groups.

Will there be Mono korfball this year? Last year the 'little people' didn't get a breather at all as there was no half way line. My under 9s were absolutely shattered at the end of the day.

Am I right in thinking that NYD will be at Cambridge? If so is there an address for the venue please.

Thanks

Jackie

Dutch U8s have a basketball pitch size (15x25 or something?) With my experiences in Belarus with a lack of halls of regular size, I think you can play the game on a basketball pitch until U12s and maybe U14s before it gets too tight.

Think different - KorfballGo to Top of Page

It's not Belarus that is the exception here, it's Holland that is. Most korfball countries will have a lack of affordable hall space of can fit a standard korfball pitch. In British countries (and their (former) colonies), netball is a major sport and they use 30.5m x 15.25m, so many sports halls are made to fit this and not korfball (or handball).

Yep, Arnold is right. In the UK there are very, very few halls which are big enough for full 40x20m pitches---since neither korfball or handball are popular here our halls tend to be based around either basketball courts, or badminton courts, or some permutation thereof.

With Handball in the Olympics there may be a few more now. The arena in the Olympics is being 'converted' for community use after the Olympics and should retain a 40 x 20 pitch. The site http://www.e-architect.co.uk/london/london_olympics_handball_arena.htm states

" In legacy mode, the venue offers a 2,743 sq m field of play hosting sports including: 5-a-side football; Netball; Boxing; Basketball; Volleyball; Badminton; Table Tennis; Handball; and Futsal
" The venue could also host in legacy: Hockey; Martial arts; Kabaddi; Wheelchair Basketball; Fencing; Sitting Volleyball; Goalball; Wheelchair Rugby, Wrestling, Weightlifting, Taekwondo, Table Tennis, Judo and Fencing.

Why isn't korfball mentioned? Probably because they have never heard of the game or not enough enquiries have been made by the sport.

See http://www.london2012.com/venue/copper-box for a current photo.

Comes to something when Wheelchair Volleyball and even Kabbadi are considered before Korfball. (and Goalball ? please )

Is this sport really being pushed effectively or do the powers that be secretly want it to remain 'niche' ?

I tend to think the latter, that way they stay in control.

Shame.
