This year is Korfstock VI.

Last year we had 40 teams and a fantastic party. This year we are aiming for 50 sides and we are considering an elite match with a cash prize for National League players (a kin to some of the super league discussions earlier in the year).

We will have the bouncy castles and other attractions back this year (they were rained off last year). This year it will be sunny.

We will once again have a live band to make the evening rock. And as an alternative we have booked the Swedish House Mafia to play nearby - they are at the National Bowl 2 miles away. We will provide lifts to the Bowl after Korfstock to anyone heading that way.

This year we will have camping - and for the non-campers - we will open up changing rooms again for sleepovers.

We are aiming for youth matches again.

Get in touch if you want to know more. Put it into your diary now. Invites will come out in the New Year.

Thanks
DARREN

Hi all,

I have just emailed out the Korfstock invite to a distribution list which hopefully covers as many clubs as possible. If you didn't receive it and want a copy, let me or Darren know!

Now get those entries in

Hello

Can someone please confirm whether or not camping is available at the tournament. I have conflicting information from the 2 different teams I'm entering with. And neither team is now sure after speaking to the other about whether or not there is camping at the tournament!

Thanks!
Adil

Hello

Sorry for late reply - busy life!

Firstly on age groups:

U9s - 4v4 mono korf. Schools years up to Year 4. K3 ball and little posts.

U11s - full korf. School years up to Year 6. K4 ball and 3m post.

U13s - full korf. School years up to Year 9. K5 ball - 3.5m post.

Adults - if we get enough entries we will have beginners.

We are now closing in on 40 adult teams. We have juniors from Nottingham, Harrow, MK and Norwich!? Hopefully we can get some more - we have loads of sideshow stuff with giant bouncy castles, sumo suits, bar fly, arts and crafts, stilt walkers, crazy wheels plus lacrosse, ice hockey and petanque to try plus zumba and yoga.

And at 5pm we have a celebrity korfball match - and we need 8 korfball volunteers to join in. The opponents are made up of members of the MK Lions (pro basketball), Mavericks (superleague netball), MK Lightning (pro ice hockey), MK Hockey (first team captains), MK rugby club first team captain. We are trying to add an ex-England cricketer and an ex-Olympian. This match is a fund raising for our local Neonatal Baby Unit with a bucket collection. If you want to volunteer to play (and make a small donation) then sign up. I will let you know Mike New of the Lions is 6' 11".

We have a live band playing in the evening - the same one as last year covering songs by Coldplay, Snow Patrol, Killers, Jamiroquai etc.

For those wanting to go elsewhere for entertainment - Swedish House Mafia are playing two miles away at the National Bowl. If the wind is in the right direction Korfstock will have the support acts as a backdrop.

Now the bad news. We don't have camping on site. I am trying to arrange camping at a venue very close by. There is however accomodation available in the changing rooms on site for up to 20 people per changing room - Hallam slept in there last year and were warm and dry (and drunk). There are 4 changing rooms.

If the weather is good we should have a decent crowd as we are sending out 8,000 leaflets, running school assemblies, have adverts in several local magazine, have an advert running 8 times a day for a month on MKFM starting tomorrow.

So - get your bookings in - and stay in touch re: camping.

best wishes
DARREN

Korfstock is a week on Saturday. Here is a quick update.

We currently have 38 adult teams and 3 more thinking about it! We still hope to get to 50 teams - so get your entries in now.

We should have 6 x U9 teams, 5 x U11s, 5 x U13/14s - but we need confirmation.

The fun day (1pm to 6pm) is getting bigger. We have added a mechanical bull and zorbing to the bouncy castles, sumo suits, inflatable jousting, lacrosse, petanque, zumba and more. And this is all free to have a go at.

The bar is open through from 10am - midnight. In the evening we have a great live band from 8pm. Chilli is being served from 7pm.

We still can't offer camping but we do have sleeping in the changing rooms available. We will sweep and clean and you can then lay down your bedding like Hallam did last year.

We have 'Gordon Henry' kit suppliers attending. They supplied the excellent Roos kit (well the kit is excellent even if Roos aren't). We will have a free draw and one team will receive a £100 voucher toward a kit order.

Unfortunately we have lost a few of the celebs for the Charity match - so we will have to cancel this.

So... Get in touch to sign up - we have teams from all around the country but want more.

Thanks
DARREN

We have had to move Korfstock indoors because of the weather (we can't get the line markers to stick and there is standing water on the pitches).

What this means is we cannot accomodate all 38 adult and 10 junior teams that are booked. We can offer the following:

10am - 5pm at Stantonbury Leisure Centre - this is a 38 x 19m court. We want to run an 8 team tournament here.

1pm - 5pm at Courtside, MK College in Bletchley. This is slightly smaller hall. We want to run a 6 team tournament here.

These will be tow separate tournaments.

We then have the band playing at our original venue of Emerson Valley Sports Pavilion with chilli and rice in the evening. The party is free but the food is £5. There is still accomodation at the Pavilion on Friday night (tonight) and Saturday night. The changing rooms won't have been used and so will be clean. So turn up after the tournaments and relax and then enjoy the entertainment.

Please, please do support us with this. It is really gutting to have to cancel what would have been a huge event with loads of entertainment that has taken 100's of hours to arrange. We have already booked the band, bought the food and spent out on promo. Please help us recoup a little - and of course have warm, dry korfball fun.

Please get in touch with me or Kirsty asap.

Thanks
DARREN

Just to echo that:

If you are organising a team, do reply to Darren or Kirsty ASAP to let us know that you have received this message and also whether, tomorrow, your team would like to play

- in the indoor event from 10-5pm
- in the indoor event from 1-5pm
- neither

So, since I am guessing that most of you have a set of players who are all ready to play tomorrow, do support the indoor mini-korfstocks if you can, and play some korf without getting wet!

Thanks to the teams who have already been in contact, whether you are playing tomorrow or not.

Also, we are looking to see whether or not it is possible to rearrange the outdoor version of Korfstock for a date in September. If so, we really hope you will all support it, and of course new entrants will be welcome too, because it'll be great.
